In May 2024, the Cespino-Russo Post on Staten Island announced plans to dedicate a plaque honoring 128 World War II veterans from the Arrochar–South Beach area. Local genealogist and veteran Lawrence (Larry) Gallagher answered the call to locate family members of those listed. With just two months before the dedication, Larry dove headfirst into a heartfelt mission—researching names, correcting errors, and contacting relatives to ensure that these servicemen were honored not only with a plaque, but with their stories brought back to life.

On Saturday, June 14th at 2 PM, Larry will present his findings at the Garibaldi Meucci Museum, sharing the deeply personal stories behind the names. With over 40 years of genealogical experience and a binder filled with draft cards, obituaries, enlistment records, school yearbooks, and more, Larry gives voice to the men who served their country and were nearly forgotten by time.
