Here are the Winners!

Handmade Art

The artist’s subtle use of color and shading creates a quietly engaging scene. We were impressed by the creative use of scale and the way the artist activates the entire surface of the work. These elements give it a layer of sophistication that lift it beyond the simplicity of the subject matter.

The artists’ beautifully unrestrained
brushwork, as well as the use of light, shadow, and symmetry are the highlights of this piece. This scene captures the beauty of winter, and has a surprising intimacy that adds to its appeal. It is serene and alive all at once.

This artist has created a warm, sensitive, and lovely scene. The subtlety of the rendering and use of color are very impressive, and they
complement the sweetness and innocence of the imagery perfectly. This is a captivating ode to the power of faith.

Digital Art

The artist displays a skillful sense of balance in the use of color, shape, and image that make this work into a celebration of the winter season that is hard to resist. The joy comes shining through in this happy piece,
making it into an exuberant expression of the holiday season.

This artist uses conventional imagery in an unconventional way. The floating figures and lights create a fantastical vision that is completely endearing. We were drawn to this image because of its poetic use of movement and the delicate sense of elation that it conveys.

We were impressed by the artist’s use of space in this image. The beauty and simplicity of the images is highlighted by their placement, and use of positive and negative space. The offbeat color scheme adds to the overall appeal of this highly unique interpretation.

We invite students to create an original cover for a holiday card that best represents their interpretation of a winter holiday and/or season. All artworks will be part of a special exhibit at the Garibaldi-Meucci Museum that will run from mid-December to mid-January.

The opening of this special exhibit will take place during our annual tree lighting on December 15, 2022. The Antonio Meucci Holiday High School Art Contest is open to all students in grades 9-12 who attend either public or private school in New York City.  The contest invites students to show their interpretation of the winter season and all that comes with it.
